Music is my kingsize bed

My take on personal music management nowadays.

I love music. I honestly think my days are boring when I don’t listen to it, and more often than not I end up humming a song in my head when there’s too much silence.

Over the years I collected quite a few songs on my computer. Also I have tried several music services online like Spotify, Last.fm, Rdio, Pandora, Deezer, and more recently Google Music.

So going chronologically, I first discovered last.fm back in the day before the smart phones revolution and when the geographical restriction didn’t exist i believe it was 2007. For a while this was my world, after a bit of constantly scrobbling my music the recommendations kept getting better and better. I spent more time discovering new music than listening to my own, and my local library grew quite a bit.

Then the bad news came. Continue reading

Age turning feelings

Yesterday was my birthday. I’ve just turned 25.

It feels strange. I just moved to Silicon Valley not a month ago. I am working in Mountain View but have been spending many of my weekends at San Francisco.

It was a funny coincidence, just 1 week before I moved in, a good friend I met last year also moved right into SF with his wife, Ricardo.

It also made me think about the things I’ve done and things I’ve seen.

I was thinking about how I met Ricardo a bit over a year ago in India. I went there for ~3 months for a summer internship in India. Rather I traveled almost every single weekend, made very good friends from India and other countries, and saw some mind blowing views.

Right after the internship and Continue reading

Listening Post

I just moved to Guadalajara a few weeks ago. Everything is going good so far. A cousin of mine moved to Puerto Vallarta a while ago with his wife and recently had a lovely daugther that I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting in person. And so taking advantage of my free time I decided this weekend was a perfect opportunity to go visit him and his new family.

In the last few years I noticed we had very similar taste in music and so I was happy to hear his latest recommendation.

Ampersan is an indie band formed in Guadalajara in 2007. I loved the mix of their bittersweet lyrics and sort-of-traditional sound.

Axtel Mexico

Add Environment Variables

Note to self, for the last fucking time!

2 ways to set up the API Keys.

  1. As the original script suggested, to set them as Environment Variables.
Add 2 lines at the end of the ~.bashrc:
    export FLICKR_UPLOADR_PY_API_KEY='your_flickr_key'
    export FLICKR_UPLOADR_PY_SECRET='your_flickr_secret'
After that insert the same 2 lines in the console. Or log out and back in.
  2. As suggested by Rick Martin, insert them directly on your uploadr.py file.
I personally prefer this one since it’s easier to move around between different systems, it’s true that your KEY and SECRET will be visible, so just be careful not to post the script online with the keys.

I honestly don’t know why did the initial developer made it that way. I don’t see any real advantage.

Brazilian Update and Goodbye

Many things have happened since I got to Brazil, I did get a job but due to other circumstances I had to get back to Mexico.
I have to admit I’m a bit dissapointed, in almost 2 months in Brazil I got together with some old friends and family and met tons of new awesome people. Sao Paulo is fucking awesome, and so I will miss the city and the people I’ve met.
On the other hand I am happy that I did this trip, I feel that coming here was the right thing to do. It also helped clear up what my goals in life are (kinda).

I got back straight to my hometown Villahermosa to say hello and goodbye to my family again, I was here for 4 days and tomorrow I’m moving again, now to Guadalajara. The reason is quite simple, Mexico City is too annoying for me, in the way that I think is awesome, but if you dont have a car it seems like you lose some freedom. Although if a good opportunity came up to move there I would probable take it. Monterrey is not the place it used to be, sadly, the violence has closed my favorite places to go out and also made many friends of mine prefer to stay home every single weekend. So next big city on the list is Guadalajara, also with its ups and down but I have a good feeling about it.

I will miss the time in Sao Paulo, 2 months is really nothing when you think of it, yet in that time a quick but great life happened for me.

Here some few pics, of course lots of people are missing. If any of them reads this please know that you have a house in Mexico or wherever I am!!
